Bible Society in Northern Ireland

A team from the Austrian Bible Society visits the main detention centre in ViennaScripture for Refugees

Refugees: people who have lost everything; are not welcome in a foreign country with a foreign language; are not allowed to work; live in very poor conditions and have a very uncertain future. Some refugees are kept in camps, others scattered in refugee homes all over the country. If not granted asylum some "disappear" and remain illegally in the country. Some see no other way out of their situation than to do illegal things or sell their bodies, and end up in prison. If not granted asylum refugees are put in special police-run detention centres before being sent home or to the country where they first entered the European Union.

The Austrian Bible Society is distributing free Scripture to refugees – Children’s Bibles for families, audio-scriptures, ‘I am She’ brochure in five languages, and ‘On the Road’ Bible Studies in seven languages.

They rely on funds received from other countries as fundraising for this area of work is hard within Austria. To help with this the Austrian Bible Society launched the ‘I am Refugee’ exhibition which tours around Austria trying to provoke Christians to see the Biblical attitude towards refugees - and non-Christians to be amazed about the Bible and its message regarding refugees!

Please pray…

Pray that funds will be received to allow this important ministry to continue and help place Scripture in the hands of many who feel lost and alone.
