Illiteracy is a significant problem in Laos where approximately 20% of the population over the age of 15 cannot read or write. Those regions most affected by this are the remote rural areas where the majority of people come from minority ethnic groups. The Church in Laos wants to reach out to these people groups and help them to understand the message of the Bible. Resources and training are being provided so that the Church will be equipped to run literacy classes and contribute to the growth and development of individuals and communities.
