Rwanda: Good Samaritan Programme

God’s Word has rescued Felicia and her children.

Will you change the lives of more families in Rwanda?

Felicia’s Story

Rwanda Good Samaritan Programme

Imagine being forced to leave your home with your children. You have nowhere safe to go, no income and have been completely rejected by the rest of your family. Why? Because you are sick.

That’s what happened to Felicia. She remembers the desperate years of stigma, hatred and struggling to survive. That was before she met people who led her into freedom in Christ and gave her a Bible of her own.

Felicia was told of a group called the ‘Good Samaritan’; she heard that they actually helped people like her, who were infected with HIV/AIDS. Finally, she found the courage to approach the group and was quickly welcomed, accepted and loved.

“They gave me a Bible from Bible Society of Rwanda, when I opened it I got Isaiah 41:10 which helped me a lot. It gives me hope.” – Felicia

Felicia’s story is one of many.  She has been accepted, loved and given value. She now runs a little business selling grain and her children are graduating from High School. Her dream is to pass on the love she has to others who are in need of acceptance and hope.
It is saddening that people are treated so badly, simply for being ill. Not everyone survives such harsh treatment and rejection.

What are ‘Good Samaritan’ groups?

Good Samaritan GroupUsed in over 20 African countries, the ‘Good Samaritan’ programme has a proven record of changing lives for good.  Based on the parable of the Good Samaritan, the programme challenges perceptions and teaches compassion and mercy.
Churches in Rwanda, that once rejected and condemned people, have learnt to welcome them as Jesus does. The ‘Good Samaritan’ groups are offering support and friendship to sufferers and their carers. Action groups visit and care for those in hospital. Prevention classes are educating young people about how to stay safe.
God is using the ‘Good Samaritan’ project to bring people out of darkness, to put the lonely in families and to transform the atmosphere of communities.
There is an urgent need to reach people who are struggling without support. The Bible Society in Rwanda is working to establish the ‘Good Samaritan’ programme in new areas. It is vital that churches are resourced and trained so that people are reached before it is too late.
Your donation will make a huge difference:
  • - £12 provides 2 Bibles for desperate people arriving at ‘Good Samaritan’ groups
  • - £20 teaches 2 young people about prevention at a ‘Good Samaritan’ workshop and provides them with a Gospel
  • - £80 will train someone to set up and lead a support group in their church
